Wie Jeanne d’Arc ahnungslos vor dem Schafott. Ein Kampf, sie kommen, um sie zu holen, den Handschlag einzulösen. Aus den Händen, an den Händen können Sie die gebrochene Zeit ablesen: weil etwas beseitigt, gekämmt, zerkratzt und liebevoll gestreichelt wird. Vielleicht ist der Samt Handschuh die Verbindung durch die Zeit. Für ein Bündnis wird er ausgezogen. Etwas ist versiegelt: Erinnerung und Traum treten gegeneinander an, die beste Kämpferin wird angenommen. Und letztendlich brennt sie zu Asche, die berühmte Geschichte, es war alles ein Traum. Vielleicht war sie der Junge, den sie geküsst hat, zumindest ähnelt sie ihm. Der Bildausschnitt und die Spuren auf dem Material verbergen das Geheimnis. Ernste Männer komm herauf, um sie auszurotten. “Deform Your Dreams” als einzige Befreiung.

redeeming handshake. Out of the hands, on the hands, that’s how you can read broken time: 
because something is eliminated, combed, scratched and lovely caressed. Perhaps the velvet 
glove is the connecting through time. For an alliance it´s taken off. Something is sealed: memory
and dream play off against each other, the best fighter will be adopted. And ultimately it burns to 
ashes, the famous story, it was all a dream. Maybe she was the boy that she kissed, at least she

mixing dismembered pieces of footage with text and manipulated celluloid.

Broken Time by Johannes Gierlinger is probably the single most intense and sustained example of 
this genre I can ever recall seeing. There isn’t a lazy frame in it; every moment is a rich tapestry 
of painstakingly hand-scratched artwork imposed on top of existing live-action footage with a near
flawless sense of balance and juxtapositioning.
